A talented singer isn't the way someone sounds, per-say. It all comes down to how they feel when they're singing the song, and how much heart and effort they put into what they're singing. Niel Young had a voice that sounded kind of whiney and would give out at any minute, but he had music that meant something and he liked what he did. Bruce Springstein has a really gruff voice, but he enjoys what he does and keeps on going. Robert Plant had a high-pitched voice, but he had that CRASH!-BOOM!-BANG! whenever he sang, and he MADE you listen, because he was packing an immense amount of power and his whole heart into his vocals. Does that answer your question?
