according to the kjv pre-christian palestine was swarming with them (deut: 33:17; psalms 22:21 - lots of other places).

there aren't any unicorns in israel now (they'd be on the discovery channel if they were), not even any stuffed unicorns or unicorn skeletons.

did they evolve into a different species?

so cl richardson is using a different text from the authorised version, but fails to mention this.

i wonder does he realise how dishonest he is being.

and kayne, by 1611 (when the authorised version was published) 'unicorn' meant exactly what it means in modern english. the possibility of 'unicorn' meaning re'em disappeared some time in the fifteenth century.

C.L. so you found a different translation. That does not negate the fact that Unicorn was used in many.

What if all the cattle in the world suddenly became polled?(meaning no horns)

Would we, in a few thousand years laugh out our old stories and pictures that have cows with horns?

Who is to say the same thing didn't happen with unicorns? Ok..so maybe the magical powers is made up, but is it so hard to believe there were once horses with horns? I mean humans had tails at some point...

They evolved into rhinoceroses, don't tell the creationists though.

Either that or they never existed, given that the 'Great Flood' fossilized everything because every fossil was made under exactly the same flood conditions. So why can't we find any unicorn fossils, eh? Or giant fossils?

I have a sneaking suspicion that Genesis is all made-up.

You are wrong.

There are still stuffed unicorns in Israel now. I just brought one back in April for my 6 year old niece. It's the cutest darn thing you ever saw, and really soft and fluffy. My niece loves it.

Mind you now, it wasn't made in Israel, but that's definitely where I bought it. Check out that little market south of Haifa.

My KJV Thompsom Chain Reference Bible has a side note for that scripture (Deut. 33:17) stating that the word "unicorn" means "wild ox".

That makes sense to me in reguards to Jocko-ho's answer about the rhinos.

Many people say that all mythical creatures (dragons, unicorns, etc.) failed to get on Noah's arc in time and therefore became extinct. Me, I think they are still out there somewhere!

Psalm 22:21 - Save me from the mouth of a lion: -- And -- from the horns of the high places Thou hast answered me!

Deuteronomy 33:17 - His honour [is] a firstling of his ox, And his horns [are] horns of a reem; By them peoples he doth push together To the ends of earth; And they [are] the myriads of Ephraim, And they [are] the thousands of Manasseh.

My guess is they're all still prancing circles in that brain of yours, along with all your other misconceptions of the Bible.

My Christian relatives told me the dragon, the phoenix, and the unicorn refused to board Noah's ark.

Have you ever looked at the Latin name for the Rhinoceros? You might want to take a look at that, and remember that our English translations were based on the Latin Vulgate.
