I'm a transfer student from UCSC.... you CANNOT transfer unless you have completed 90 quarter units. So you will have to spend two years at community college before transferring.... it's still a great way to go.. save money AND get into the school of your choice :-)

plus you get to take classes at UCSC while you're still at cabrillo.. and acceptance from cabrillo is ridiculously high..

good luck

TONS of people transfer to UCSC from Cabrillo. And yes, Cabrillo is a good school.

Many of their classes are set up to have transferable credits, and Cabrillo has a special "UCSC Transfer" program.

Cabrillo is a community college, so they don't check your GPA for admission. The most difficult part about getting in is getting the classes that you want. For a lot of students, the first semester is spent on non-essential classes, because returning students have priority at registration time. This means that the gen-ed classes get filled up before new students even have a chance to register. A good alternative is to take a language, or something like Political Science that the other students are trying to avoid!

One of the links below explains the fees - not expensive at all really. The cost of your books will more than likely be the most expensive part of taking classes. I have also included a link to the bookstore, for your reference.

Feel free to email me if I can help answer any more questions.

Usually people don't transfer from community college to university until the beginning of their junior year. So you'd need at least two years at community college (or a combination of colleges) before you could transfer.

But yes, many people follow this plan - a few years at a community saves a lot of money and allows you to take care of a lot of general education requirements before transferring to university.
UCSC is a great school, but not as insanely popular or selective as some schools (like UCLA or Stanford) - so you need good grades, but not impossibly high grades, to transfer.
To get into Cabrillo, you need to at least graduate high school, but most community colleges don't require any GPA at all. They are supposed to be open to the entire community, regardless of academic excellence. But having a decent GPA will help.

Check the Cabrillo website and email their counselors for more info.
