planning an up and coming solo album and got the feelings of a Gwen Stefani type ordeal coming out of it.

Are there any artist that left a band to have a more successful solo career WITHOUT totally changing their musical style.

Sting does rather well. I am not sure he is more successful than the police though. That's the only artist I can think of really.

I'm not anti-Kenny, but I've never been mistaken
as a "fan".

That said, after giving this all of a thorough 15 seconds,
I'd hafta say, Kenny Loggins.

Objectively.

Whereas, I actually think Gwen rather rocks (not only
becuz she's so unlookawayable), and I have Shirley
on a pedestal you wouldn't believe. I get chills from
her voice in many a Garbage song...well, from
their first 3 albums anyway. (What WAS that 4th effort?)

I trust her to do a great job with the album, because she wasn't just the vocalist in Garbage, she wrote many of the songs, and she did a wonderful job. There isn't a single song of theirs that I dislike, and she was behind a lot of it.

I do think that she's more hardcore than Gwen, and I think that this album's going to be a great one.

Somehow, I think Shirley is a little more "hard core" than Gwen, and I would expect that her music will be in line with Garbage.

Other examples - Beyonce, Diana Ross,

Eric Clapton.

He's had many bands, and done many solo projects, and they've all been very good (and similar to each other.)

Morrisey is also very similar to his days with the Smiths.

Rob Thomas didn't really change his musical style. But I am glad to see him back with Matchbox Twenty.

Are you serious?? & I'm not even a Garbage *fan*. That'll really suck for her older fans.

This is highly reminiscent of when Jewel went the Britney route. Sorry to use the cliche, but -What a blatant sell out...

I hope that isn't true, but since we are talking about the printed word it must be. That's really bad news. I can tell you right now that will end up being a very disappointing album.

Maybe Eric Clapton, he did OK for himself.
