The term "library" implies that the institution specializes in reading materials and little else. However, the so-called "presidential libraries" are actually museums, so why aren't they called "presidential museums" instead of "presidential libraries"?

A library is a place that holds history and knowledge. A museum is a place that puts that history and knowledge on tour... so while they may be both.. the actual idea of the "Presidential Libraries" is to have a location that future generations can come to to study and learn about that President.

Libraries stopped being places that specialize in reading material only years ago! You will find just as much info on microfilm and other audiovisual materials as books. The majority of content in a Presidential library are archives of things like meetings, conferences, speeches and other things like that that either took place during his administration inside or outside of the country. All of this will be used for research in the future.

Probably because people don't really want to donate to build a presidential museum, but they fine the idea of donating to a presidential library (or in Bill's case presidential cat house) a good thing.
