For a college application it asks, "Are your parents separated or divorced?" and then has three choices: yes, no, or N/A.

Which do I choose? They never divorced, but they're certainly not living together anymore. Does a death count as "separation"?

No, they did not choose to part. N/A is the proper choice...if they have any questions, they'll ask.

N/A is definitely the right choice, but it makes you wonder about the school's sensitivity. What if they had never been married?

Oh dear, you poor thing.
I'm sorry for your loss. :(
Well he is not living anymore, so they can't be put as seperated or divorced.
Seperated means: 'Not living together' and of course you know what divorced is.
I think the proper and appropiate answer is N/A.
I hope I helped

I don't know what I'd do without my father. You have my sincerest condolences.

N/A would be the right choice.
