I just found out that I am a little over a month pregnant. The same day I found out, my husband was fired. So...no insurance. I cant afford to pay the COBRA to keep it. We are living with my parents with my 16 month old son and no niether of us have a job so i know I qualify for Medi Cal, but where can I use it? Can I go to a hospital? I am in the Bay Area, CA. Hayward to be exact. I want to get the card but I dont really know who will accept it. I had a card with my first pregnancy in KY and there was just a small Primary Care Center in our home town that accepted anything and referred me to a doctor at the Hospital in the next town over that accepted my medicaid card. I dont know what to do. Im so stressed and scared that I wont have any medical coverage for my pregnancy and be furthur in debt than I already am. Somebody please, please help me!

It is up to a provider whether or not they will accept a medical card. Some refuse by telling you straight out that they don't take it or that they're not taking new medicaid patients. The reason being is that the states are way behind on paying medicaid bills. Most major hospitals accept the card. I'd look in the phone book under OB/GYN's and just start calling around to see if they accept it. I'd also do the same for pediatricians for your son & for when the baby is born. There's gotta be someone that'll accept it for your pregnancy. You may also want to contact your local health department for more information. Good luck!

Allmost all hospitals in clalifornia take medi cal. I have Medi-Cal and I go through there Blue Cross HMO so I can use any hospital or Dr.'s office that accepts blue cross. Californias Healthcare system for pregnant women is very efficent and effective. I havent had to pay for anything, and I could chose my health plan and providers. Call your local Human Assistance office and make an appointment. Oh and you will need a note from a Dr. that conferm's your pregnancy. Pland parenthood does free pregnancy tests and can refer you to your local human assistance.

Most hospitals accept medical, it's usually not a problem. All 3 in my city do, I live in Stockton. You'll have to call around to find an OB who accepts it though, but that shouldn't be a problem either.

Please don't stress I was in your exact same sitaution a few months back. You DEFINATELY will get coverage. You can use the medical you just need to find out which provider and hospital takes it. Also, most importantly try not to stress yourself out. You may stress yourself into a miscarriage. If your that stressed and concerend call mediCal asap and get the answers you need.

And CONGRATS!
