No. It was most likely a repair of a problem that they spotted. It was least likely that they were really sitting around drinking coffee for three hours.
If the result of it was visible to us on Yahoo they would have blogged about it.
Having "maintained systems" I know that the phrase means more than just routine work. If you don't think that is so then listen to the next time there is a disaster on a highly visible site. The following day they always claim that they were just doing some routine work but that somehow they went down for 24 hours as a result of inadequate checking of new features that were installed.

theyb were sweeping their site for porno and racist symbols displayed as avatars, for the upcoming committee investigation that their chairman yang will be summoned to Washington, DC for, after the first of the year.
This is so they can deny it, but the NSA servers that the government maintains will have all of it recorded, then when confornted about this, the Chairman of Yahoo, Yang will wet his panties again, thinking oh no! busted again!

Good question. And knowing that Yahoo has many employees, makes me wonder how big is their coffee machine.

They explained clearly - - if tersely - - in their blog that it was system maintenance. That didn't keep people who don't understand what words mean from lining up around the corner and asking them if that meant they were changing the reporting paradigm, deleting accounts, etc. Silly people if you ask me.

They said it was for updates. Could have been to change the interface connections to the web or change server configuration. Does it really matter?
