"The facts are that in most cases, pierced nipples do not cause a problem when breastfeeding; in fact, some have found that it actually increases their milk flow (flow, not production), making it easier to nurse. Some nursing mothers say they even keep the jewelry in (including during feedings), although I personally do not recommend this. You need to carefully consider what goes into your child's mouth at all times, and a piercing can be a breeding ground for bacteria. It's much easier to keep it clean without the jewelry in place."

I had mine done for about 5 years and took them out when I started planning for baby #3. They have pretty much healed, but on the left, I still have one side that is open a little. I had my daughter on Nov. 3 and have been breastfeeding her the entire time. I have no problems and neither does she. I would recommend taking them out as soon as you find out about being pregnant to allow for some healing, but if you don't want them to close, take them out when you are nursing and put the jewelry back in after. I would just take them out though, because I know that when my daughter is ready to eat, just lifting up my shirt is sometimes too long for her to wait!!! She wants to eat right now when she is hungry.

You need to contact a lactation consultant about this. Likely, you won't know until you actually have a baby nursing to see whether they can take in enough nutrient. What they do is weigh the baby before feeding, then again after feeding, to determine oz. of milk.

Yes, as long as the you remove the jewelry when nursing so baby doesn't choke on it.

There is no evidence that nipple piercing (or other body piercing) affects breastfeeding. Some professional piercers recommend against getting a new nipple piercing while breastfeeding.
