My friend sent a large box filled with my clothing to me using UPS. I never recieved the package and I checked online to see where the package was, the last place it was scanned was in jacksonville Florida. We called UPS several times because it has been 4 weeks. They finally said the package has been lost and they are putting a Trace on it. Apparently they may choose to compensate if they cant find the clothing. The problem is the guy at the store put the value of the clothes as $100 because they are used. The real value of the clothes is between $10,000-12,000. Does anyone know if i will be able to get the real value of the clothes or if I can sue them? Any suggestions would be greatly apprieciated. Thanks

All UPS packages are automatically insured for $100, they charges extra to insure over that amount. Apparently your friend didn't want to spend the extra money.

In doing so, he will prevent you from getting anything over the declared amount.

You would have a better change getting the amount from your friend, but only if you could prove they knew the value and intentionally under reported it. I doubt this would do much for your friendship.

You will only get the declared value of the clothes. The contract with them limits their liability. You could sue your friend...
