Should they be made to register themselves as sex offenders?
Should the government (state, local, national) register them so they can't avoid it in ANY way?
Should the just be imprisoned for life, to ensure that they can never hurt another person as long as they live?
And should they be set up with security details so they aren't harmed during their prison stay, or should they be left to the mercy of their fellow inmates- as every other felon is?

there really shouldn't be any special consideration for those sick perverts. just throw them in a prison or make their live a living...

"should they be set up with security details so they aren't harmed during their prison stay?"
heh...not a chance...they were ready to destroy a child's life, i don't see why anyone would care if they get beat up.

About 21 answers in front of me, and not a single one even showing a smidgen of understanding about the true situation. all just piling on the easy victim, all bullies in the schoolyard and as adults it seems. Probably at least a few have some issues in their own family, statistically speaking, and are the "Senator Craigs" of Yahoo.

> Should they be made to register themselves as sex offenders?

No. They should be reintegrated with society and receive the help they need. society should also be educated to realize theta registry or not, people are already and have already been around, and that by far most sex offenses take place in the household or among close acquaintences.

> Should the government (state, local, national) register them so they can't avoid it in ANY way?

No.

> Should the just be imprisoned for life, to ensure that they can never hurt another person as long as they live?

No, health treatment is available for the victim and the offender, and frankly, is far cheaper to provide then life in prison. Wouldn't you rather see the victims get help having a great life instead of being so vindictive?

How cruel is it to condemn the victims by improperly spending on the perpetrators beyond what is needed to ensure safety?

> And should they be set up with security details so they aren't harmed during their prison stay, or should they be left to the mercy of their fellow inmates- as every other felon is?

Wouldn't be necessary if you were thinking through the real problem, rationally.

They should be forced to register as sex offenders on a National Registry. They should be forced to provide DNA. There should be some sort of two strike rule that increases the penalty and a third strike rule that warrants life time incarceration.

They should NOT be automatically castrated. Some people who are registered sex offenders have NOT hurt children in any way or EVEN have a propensity to children, animals, rape, what have you. For example:

1. The 17 year old boy who sleeps with his 15 year old girlfriend and is now a registered sex offender.

2. The person who purchases access to a porn site that has both adult and child porn on the site. He accidentaly opens the child porn but closes it right away. Police get his CC # when they raid the site and search his home. They find the deleted child porn in his cookies and he is guilty of possession of child porn.

They are already forced to register as a sex offender. I hate to pay for a lifetime of housing and feeding anyone in prison. If they cant be rehabilitated then we need to look at what we want to do with them. I cant see making any special exceptions for them in prison. They dont deserve special consideration. Perhaps if we made prisons more unpleasant rather than worry that we might be violating someones rights less people would commit crimes because prison would really be a deterrant.

I deffinatly say leave them at the mercy of the inmates.. I'm sick of prisoners being treated so nicely when they're IN JAIL FOR CRIMINAL OFFENSES.

Prisons get I believe $40,000 per inmate a year while schools get $7,000 per student.. I think priorities are a little out of whack.

Castration

While castration is a fine choice, it is not necessary effective, because sexual offense is not "sex" but rather a crime of the mind (the perpetrator gets a mental "high" off of committing the crime).

My choice would be full lobotomy AND castration. And for sexual predators who commit murder during the act, then public execution would also be in order.

They already are forced to become registered. And if they don't comply, they get felony charges tacked on which puts them back in prison.

Any Rape or offense on a young child should be a Capitol offense and they should be put to death. Other than that they should be punished to the maximum extent of the law and required to register.
