I say yes as well. Barry was one of the best BEFORE he was ever accused of cheating. He is the greatest hitter of all time, and those seven gold gloves don't look that bad as well.

Cheated is not a word that I would use to describe what he did. I disagree with your use of the word 'all'. Not all used steroids or 'illegal' performance enhancing drugs. Ripken didn't.
Barry Bonds is a great homerun hitter....that much is true. He is not the greatest of all time though. I know you probably don't want to hear it since you are obviously a BB fan, but I feel that without his steroid use, he would not have hit 73 homers that 1 year and probably wouldn't be the record holder that he is today.
It is a shame that he 'allegedly' lied and used performance enhancing drugs, because no matter how good he was or is, he will always have the negative shadow cast all over him. If he was truly honest, he would probably say that he would rather not have the record than to have it with the scrutiny he is and will always be under.
Although, a lot of players used steroids, he is going to get the most backlash because he broke the homerun record.
I couldn't tell you who the greatest of all time is, but I certainly wouldn't put Barry up there.....would you put Pete Rose up there? Barry and Pete will always be known as 'cheaters' no matter how many people also took steroids or how many years pass by. This is a legacy that will stick with Barry long after he passes.
He may also do some jail time for his effort.
Greatest..? Not even close. Best homerun hitter? possibly.

It is just wrong to say that all players took steroids. Not only is there no evidence to suggest it, but some people are simply too smart to do it. Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Rafael Palmiero, and all those who DID take them are not known for being brilliant geniuses. The drug has many dangerous possible side effects and there are many former users speaking out against them. The people who did take them should be ashamed because a lot of children idolize these people and they do what they do. Bonds beat the steroids issue, just as OJ beat the murder rap, but also just like OJ he did something else besides and will go on trial for it. Character is part of greatness. Bonds has none. He could at one time have been considered the greatest. But he abused his fans to the point that people are saying, "I dislike the man so much I don't care how good he is." And I'm one of those former fans. It looks as if the institution of baseball itself is going to decide the same thing.

It's too bad he did cheat. I didn't say it, I just thought it. It's too bad because clearly, he would have gone down as one of the greatest hitters of all time. Certainly in the top twenty or so. Defensively? No way. There are probably a couple of hundred players WAY ahead of him in that area. Make no mistake about it, the guy has incredible talent. It's a shame that it wasn't enough for him.
BTW - All players DID NOT use performance enhancing drugs. Even Jose Canseco - a guy who was actually there - has made that clear.

it is impossible to compare players in this era to players of older generations. Bonds is/was a great player, but greatest all time??? Come on now, lets get serious.
I will admit I am bias towards the older generation. My all time greats include Frank Robinson, Roberto Clemente, Brooks Robinson,Ted Williams, Reggie Jackson, Bob Gibson, Willie, Ruth.....and many more. They hit in much bigger ball parks, they didn't have the advantage of video footage, advanced scouting, drug enhancement (LEGAL AND NON LEGAL). Every player didn't have there own personal trainer and million dollar gym to work out in during the off season.
There are great ball players now but you can have them. They will never compare, at least for me. Too many secrets and too much controversy now to figure out who is actually pure and who cheats. The Baseball of now is not how baseball was 40-60 years ago, so I dint think its possible to make comparisons. That's without even bringing up the idea of steroids. Now that we have that added wrinkle, we have to ask who took what and when...
The last two greats for me just went into the hall this summer... we need more players and role models like Gwynn and Ripken

He was, but unfortunatly because of the controversy that is going to surround him for the rest of his life, people will see nothing but Barry the cheater, and not the 494 home runs, 1405 RBI, 471 stolen bases, 8 Gold Gloves or 3 MVP's he had before he is believe to taken steroids for the first time in 2001. Those numbers alone are first ballot hall of fame numbers, but I have a feeling voters aren't going to see that, they are going to see the last 6 years and the controversy associated with it all and leave Bonds off their ballots, and he will join Pete Rose as one of the games greatest players to never be recognized for his greatness

I hate to interrupt it to you, yet Barry Bonds isn't the final baseball participant of all time. If Barry had performed his finished occupation without using steroids and nevertheless held the comparable stats, then you definately could have a controversy.

I really have a problem with people who try and justify cheating or just blow it off as not being any big deal. I don't care that you don't want to hear that he cheated. HE CHEATED! Yes, many players probably did cheat and guess what, Bonds was one of them!!!
You need to get a grip on reality. As far as being the greatest of all time..............I love your humor! I can name a number of players that had more talent and better results in their careers than Barry Steroid. You keep hiding your head in the sand my friend if that's what makes you happy.

No, Ruth is far and away the greatest all around player in baseball history. He was one of the best pitchers of his era, and was the single greatest power producer ever. Oh, and yes Ruth could run; he stole home 10 times in his career. The Yankees weren't all that interested in having their slugger steal when Joe DiMaggio was behind him anyway.
The only guy that comes close to matching his all encompasing talent, in my view, is Martin Dihego(spl) who was exceptional at batting and pitching but who only played ***** League ball.

Greatest hitter, maybe. Greatest all-around player ? No way.
And all baseball players DID NOT use steroids. I challenge you to find ANY evidence that Cal Ripken Jr, Ken Griffey Jr. Ozzie Smith, Mike Schmidt, Pete Rose, and a host of other greats EVER used.
