Do you think that watching Television as a child can greatly influence and bring on delusional states in adulthood such as being transpecies (otherkin - thinking they have a vampire/dragon/elves/unicorn spirit)? Also, belief in having "supernatural" abilities?

(Television emits a lot of different wavelengths of light, such as radiation; and if humans do have electromagnetic energy emitting from their bodies - can this mean that T.V. accelerates the psychic development of an individual, by their energy field absorbing mutagenic wavelengths of light such as radiation? Also, can the images from T.V. create an imaginery world for the individuals subconscious, images from T.V. being stored deep in their memory banks? Spiritualists (myself included) believe we have 7 major energy points (chakra's) in our bodies where we absorb and emit energy/light. Our 3rd eye chakra is called Ajna meaning 'Command' - so can T.V. develop delusional states?

Any extensive research done on this?

***Calling all psychic's...I am one too you know - but at least I try to explain our abilities using metaphysics and science.

It's interesting only the sane, rationale minded people are answering this (Thank you). I was hoping some psychics would join in to get their point of view.

Your right Supergirl, haven't thought it through, but it would be a good hypothesis test. Regarding books having a similar impact: my statement is that with books, at least your mind is free to create, explore and develop the story - television only tells you what to think/see/etc (brainwashing?). And I was not referring to all individuals, it was more towards the whole 'otherkin' movement (started in 1996?) and those 'thinking' they have psychic abilities (I respect what you have written, thankyou).

(This question was meant to discover how many can grasp "out there" ideas. To me it shows that people would rather only think within the constraints of their societies conditioning (only thinking in safe, 'proven' ideas because everyone else is thinking like that - yeah follow!), rather than broaden their mind and think "is this possible"?

Wushu dude...my beliefs weren't developed from anywhere, it derived from the all source (GOD); it's just how I think - everyday since birth.

Everyone is affected by any environmental stimuli they come in contact with. These stimuli, and the manner in which people process them, can bring on all sorts of delusional or misguided assumptions. For example, I do not believe "otherkin" can be taken seriously. Neither do I believe that psychic abilities or chakras really exist. I choose to live in a world where I consider facts, evidence and reason to trump just about everything else. In light of this, otherkin seems like an illogical idea, but given the lack of supporting evidence, no more illogical than chakras or psychic phenomena.

I think that you have not really thought this through.

Television is not the only emitter of light waves. Radio, radar, infrared, ultraviolet (the sun!), X-rays... Anything that has a temperature above absolute zero emits light. Not all light is visible to the human eye.

The longer the light's wave length the more harmful to the human body, if incorrectly exposed... FM radio waves are longer than TV waves. Yet nobody claims that FM radio or PC monitors affects child development.

I have heard the argument that the CONTENT of TV & radio programs and PC applications can affect child development, but that does not relate to physics, rather behaviourism (Health Psychology) and that correlates with your statement that 'T.V. create an imaginery world for the individuals subconscious, images from T.V. being stored deep in their memory banks'. But then again, how is that different from books and theatre (the Shakespearian kind), other than that it is harder for the individual to absorb?

Say your premise has some value to it - would all tv watching adolesents not develop psychic powers?

First, not to burst your bubbles, but chakras fall in the real of psuedo-science, and were designed to sell books and nothing more.
Second, yes, some people become delusional from watching tv and start believing in ghosts, demons, pink unicorns, psychic powers etc etc as adults.
Not everyone does though, most people begin to realize the difference between reality and fantasy by the time they reach adulthood. The stories can still be fun, but its laughable how many people fall for the phoney psychics and mediums.

In conclusion, I don't know where your beliefs developed, but likely they are closer to a religion than actual dangerous delusions. If you are concerned, just remind yourself that chakras have never been measured or detected by any earthly equipment, and are merely a very fanciful conjecture.

I do think that watching TV can greatly influence a child's development into adulthood, but I believe it's due to the content of the material being watched and the sedentary lifestyle excessive TV watching seems to result in. There has been a lot of research done on this which you can find in the journals. I've included some web links below as well.

Regarding the spiritual/psychic connection you describe, there is no scientific research I know of which considers these factors.

audio/video support is always more effective than just plain text. but this is as far as i'd go in influencing one's education.
quite on the contrary: it serves you the image other people imagined and restricts your creative effort.

stories have been around for millenniums and every teacher agrees it is perfectly safe for young people.

regarding your hypothesis, again, don't think so.
the human [energetic] body is very well equipped to face attacks of any kind and it has its regenerative means we can't even imagine.
