I can't wait to get a hydrogen Hummer and some hydrogen ATVs.

Edit:

I don't really have or want a Hummer but I suppose my point was that SUVs are a real sore spot for some I guess I do not care for.

Zinger blocked me and I guess I wrote something about "feeble-minded" that pissed him off. Boy I get a kick outa those posts!

Edit2:

I don't know if Hydrogen will be the next fuel source, but I have read they have made some real breakthroughs very recently in creating it from cellulose. I will indeed be glad when we have more choices of fuel and energy.

You're going to have along wait. There's nothing wrong with hydrogen fuel cells per se. But right now it isn't feasible. And isn't ever likely to ever be competitive.

The reason is simple: right now, it's too expensive to produce hydrogen from water. Doing it is simple--doing it cost-effectively in large quantities is not--it takes a lot of electricity. The usualy way to produce hydrogen now is by processing petroleum.

Now, here's how that plays out: first, there's no point in spending the money for a hydrogen powred car (expensive) and the hydrogen (also expensive) when the source is oil--you might as well jsut go aheadd and use a gasoline engine.

ON the other hand, when (not if; thisis coming) it's possible to use any of several methods to produce the electricity cheaply enough to make hydrogen cost-effective, you might as well use the electricity directly--charging batteries on electric cars (which are cheaper and have equal or better range and performance).

Predicting the future trajectories of new technologies is always tricky--but right now, that's the way its shaping up. Either way, the right-wing is in for a shock. Oil (and coal) are essentially obsolete--these new technologies can (or very soon will be able to) produce power that is not only not damaging to the environment, but is cheaper. No one who knows whats going on really cares about their frantic defense of the oil companies. The age of fosil fuels is over. That's jsut economics--all the environmental issues will do s speed up the change.

nicely that truly relies upon the way you define "green". working example, there's a hybrid Chevy Tahoe, regardless of the shown fact that it nonetheless in straightforward terms gets approximately 20 mpg. in my opinion, i do no longer evaluate that green, regardless of the shown fact that that is greater beneficial than a known Tahoe. it ought to additionally be talked approximately that "green" vehicles are no longer boxy. The boxier a automobile, the fewer aerodynamic it is. working example, the Toyota Prius is extremely plenty no longer boxy - that's the main aerodynamic automobile at present available. the priority with the Hummer is that that is extensive and boxy. I advise you assert you do in comparison to boxy vehicles, however the Hummer is in fact a huge field! So regardless of in case you're making a Hummer "green", that is nonetheless going to be inefficient. That being mentioned, there are "green" Hummers. working example, one mechanic retrofitted a Hummer to run on ethanol, hydrogen, biodiesel or organic gas. the automobile gets the such as 40 miles in line with gallon. The conversion fees $24,000, to boot to the already intense fee of a Hummer, regardless of the shown fact that that is easily a quite green Hummer. regardless of the shown fact that, as you talked approximately, GM is pondering doing away with the Hummer type altogether.

Why should we move toward hydrogen. It is far too costly to rebuild a brand new infrastructure that is based on hydrogen. You do know the implications of this don't you? Higher gas prices to raise the money off your back, possibly higher sales tax on you and me to raise the money, more government subsidy money (paid by you and me) to the oil industry through your taxes to develope the hydrogen technology and enormous plants and shipping to create the hydrogen. It's yet another inefficient system that is born out of the greed and power of the oil monopolies and off the back of suckers who think they are improving the environment by switching to hydrogen. The future is electric power. It's cleaner, it's more efficient and it can be generated by the sun to create the electricity to power up the car, truck or suv. And, it's much easier, cheaper and more efficient to create the infrastructure for it. It's practically already in place.

BTW, Hummers are for suckers who have tiny ***** and need a sense of accomplishment to overcompensate for their inadequecies and sense of insecurity. But intelligent people already know this. If you like inefficiency and hollow sense of power then the Hummer is for you.

You got one???

Kewl.

Can I have a ride? Where does the hydrogen come from? Do you have a magic H2 generator, or do you still have to rely on electrolosys powered by coal/nuclear plants to get it?

No, but you should hold out for a nuclear powered Hummer.

they already have a problem with the fact that a hummer is already easier on the environment than a prius.

Not me, but I don't know if I fit in your pigeonhole of eco-left or not...

We could drive emission-free cars already, if the oil companies (who Bush loves) didn't have our government in a chokehold... in my opinion.

Why do you make this a political issue? We need to protect our resources and planet, no matter what political side we are on.
