DO NOT put a heat rock in ANY reptile cage. They will get burnt. Second, leopard geckos do not need UV lamps since they are nocturnal. I use a day and night bulb so I can keep the lamp on 24/7. I also have a heating pad that is secured to th bottom, outside of their tank because they gather most of their heat from their bellies. Here is a good care sheet for a leopard gecko: http://www.geckosetc.com/htm/care.htm. Also, it wouldn't hurt to get a book from the pet store for more information. Good luck.

No. You should NEVER use a heat rock for ANY reptile, lizard, gecko etc. Despite what suppliers might tell you, they are dangerous for the animal.
For leopard geckos a heat lamp is sufficient. They do not need UV like many reptiles do. The best form of heating is a simple heat mat, that way you can retain proper day/night cycles using the natural light of the day. Remember to only put the mat (or lamp if you do go for that choice) only on one side of the vivarium to allow the geckos to thermoregulate.

Well first, you don't need a UV lamp for leopard geckos. And don't use heat rocks. Use a heat lamp, so it doesn't get burned.

heat rocks are crap all they will do is burn your gecko to death. if you want your gecko to get belly heat get an under tank heater its safer and you need a heat lamp not a UV lamp since leopard gecko are nocturnal they just need a heat source between 88-91degrees F on the hot side and 75-80 on the cool side

Yes. You should have the UV lamp on a timer where it goes off at night. Keeping a constant 24 hour light on a reptile is not good for their circadian rhythms. You can supplement the night time heat with a heating pad under their tank.

You don't use heat rocks for any reptile--they are the leading cause of burns! Leopard geckos don't need lights--they are nocturnal. They need an under tank heat mat, with a control like a dimmer switch or thermostat to set the temperature. Leos need BELLY HEAT to digest their food--not radiant heat like bearded dragons or iguanas. You can use a red or blue light at night or during cold months to keep the air temperature up at one end of the tank.
