My personal favorite: A piece of wedding cake from the 1937 wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor sold at auction in 1998 for $30,000.
Technically, that means the item truly was worth $30,000. It is often said in the antique business that an item is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

Actually the value of any item is based on how much it is worth to the person/s that need it. One of an item may not be worth much. But one of an item to a collector who needs that exact one, might be worth more.
