Can you think of any huge attempts to deceive anyone in rock or pop music history? They don't necessarily have to be about death, but they can be.

I thought the recent Radiohead one was really funny. A few weeks before the release of "In Rainbows", someone set up a fake Radiohead website that showed a timer counting down to some unknown event, which many presumed would be an announcement about Radiohead's then upcoming album. After a few days of keeping people waiting, and a lot of speculation, the website redirected people who visited it to this:

Hmm let's see, the whole recent "Ian Mackaye is dead" hoax was pretty messed up. He even had his Wikipedia entry re-edited by someone the day the rumor came out, so that it read: April 16, 1962 - Oct. 2, 2007. The poor guy had to confirm to the Baltimore Sun that he was indeed still alive :)

Toss-up between that Britney, Nsync, backstreet boys, Ashlee Simpson, & Avril were all "great musicians" worthy of sales in the millions

or

American Idol is a sensational show that'll produce the next groundbreaking music acts!

But seriously, folks. Take my wife...please.

The Paul is dead hoax. That was huge.

Jim Morrison is still alive and living in France. They did make Eddie and the Cruisers as a "tribute" for that rumor.

I HEARD that once Slash of GNR/VR was playing a solo so intensely, that when the cigarette that's always dangling from his mouth fell out and landed in his pants, he finished the solo before removing it.

However - Slash wore tight leather pants MOST of the time... how could a cigarette have fallen in?

one time ( think it was april fools, not sure) on a main Tool website, it claimed that the band had disbanded because Maynard had "found God". which is funny because this happened to one of the members of korn ... except that time no one cared. lol

and wasnt there something about Keith Richards snorting his father's ashes? which wasnt true. but pretty interesting.

rukrym - hahahha i never knew about that that is too funny

Ozzy biting the head off of a bat, or KISS having really long tounges. To this day I don't know if either is true or not.
