Ah, interesting.

Does electric current actually move inside the battery? Too much chemistry, EE and definitional stuff for my little brain.

But if you look at the big picture, what keeps the battery terminals charged? A flow of current created by the chemical components of the battery. Since the normal movement of electric current (definitional) is from + to -, something has to be supplying current to the battery terminals. Since the battery/circuit is a closed system, this flow has to come from the chemical components of the battery and this current must be equal to the current in the circuit. What the battery does in the circuit is step up the voltage as the current flows through it.

Therefore, the flow of current inside the battery is from - to + or answer (b). By analogy, it is like a bunch of kids climbing a ladder to a slide (the battery), the ground being the "-" terminal and the top of the slide being the "+" terminal, and then sliding down the slide (the circuit), only to start climbing again.

Inside the cell, the current moves in the opposite direction as the outside. On the outside, current goes from + to -. On the inside, it's - to +.

Let's take a hydrogen fuel cell for example. At the anode (-ve) terminal, the following reaction takes place:
H2 --> 2H+ + 2e-
At the cathode (+ve) terminal, the reaction is:
1/2 O2 + 2H+ + 2e- --> 2H2O

It's the electrode potential created by these half cell reactions that result in the cathode attaining a higher potential than the anode.

Outside the cell, electrons from from - to + terminals, while inside protons (H+) flow from - to +. The flow of protons is identical to the flow of current inside the cell.

The only difference between a fuel cell and a regular battery is that in the former, fuel is continually supplied to the cell. Otherwise the principle of operation is the same.

definite, I too, observed that digital mail floating around. It must be a lantern battery from the present situations, reason purely this previous weekend we opened a older lantern battery, ie metallic exterior casing and it did no longer have 32 AA batteries, it had 4 very great ie. D-cellular batteries in it. yet i'm desirous to bypass purchase a plastic cased lantern battery and see for myself! Now the place did I positioned those cord cutters and screw motive force? I in basic terms desire the manufactures don't get wind of this, or we are all sunk. That darn lantern battery will fee $a hundred.00 money. lol
