I've seen a few people that I respect and regard as intelligent say that GW is a smart person. Bill Mahr and Janine Garaffalo, who I think are less than bright, tell me he's not. I'll go with the folks that have actually met and talked to him. He definately communicates poorly, but so do some of the scary smart people in my company, so I don't judge intelligence by the way someone speaks in public. Sure it's fun to pretend that you're smarter than the leader of the free world, but I really really doubt that you are.

As much as I like the guy, and didn't like the Clinton's, I would have to agree with you. I think we all got spoiled by Bill's excellent grammar. He and Gore were excellent speakers, and I will readilly admit that listening to Bush talk is somewhat agonizing at times. He isn't very polished, but I do admire his conviction.
