People will say none, but then they will do what they can to keep the Bible out of school and public libraries.

They will do what they can to ban books like 'Little Black Sambo" because they think it's racist.

Most times I am against censorship of books, but in a case where there is obvious libel, or has kiddie porn or stuff that encourages criminality or the violent overthrow of any government, then I think those may be cases....but even then there'd better be a compelling reason to make an exception to the 1st Amendment.

For the record, other answerers, liberals are just as likely to push for books to be banned as conservatives.

someone answering earlier then me said:

> People will say none, but then they will do what they can to keep the Bible out of school and public libraries

I want to address this fallacious logic.

Libraries do have bibles and religious materials from other religions.

Public Schools don't because:

- they are places where attendance is compelled by
Congressional act
- Fed, State, and Local gov't combine to set the curriculum that is followed
- Federal money can not be spent on teaching one religion or another because there is no fair way to do so without violating the "Establishment" clause of the 1st Amendment

Except:

If the school did not take any money, directly or indirectly, form the Federal Government for running the school.

But then it would be hard to see where that was a "Public" school anymore, and it is perfectly fine for non-public schools to teach the Bible as much as they want to.

There are no legitimate reasons for censorship of books - only for the limit of ages allowed access to some books (although even this is a touchy subject as far as I'm concerned!)

I only have one concern with this topic, and thats school books. Sometimes in the lower grades and middle schools, they push evolution in the science books. Not that my belief is any concern here, but I believe children should be shown different options....with out school turning into a sunday school class. Not even sure if that falls into a censorship category. But what the schools expose our children to, is important.

There are no good reasons for censorship. Only the fearful and repressive would want only certain thinking allowed.

that said...

1. You 'train' people into a 'correct' way of thinking
2. You limit imagination
3. You suppress alternative viewpoints without regard to how correct they are.

Can't help you there. . .because there aren't any reasons censorship of books should be allowed.

Oh... this question is so wrong. I can't wait to see if there are any serious responses.

I can think of NO reason (not even one) that would be worthy enough to ban a book.

There is absolutely no reason ever to censor books. It's bad enough they censor TV and radio like they do. If you don't like it or it offends you, don't read it, don't listen to it, and dont watch it. There is a thing called a remote, or dial, use it.
