The only real answer I can think of is that there is no reason why we shouldn't be here. In an infinite multiverse everything has to happen somewhere. It doesn't make the world any less amazing or beautiful, simply an inevitability on some level.
If you want some reasoning for the infinite probability argument, then please consider:
If you subtract the universe from itself, you have only a void left, with no physical presence. The laws of probability dictate that the likleyhood of any particular event occuring is determined by the antecedent events, ambient conditions and/or circumstance. In this Void there are none of the above, so the probability of any particular event becomes 1 (or 0, but we are here so that scuppers that), and the sum probability becomes infinity. The idea of these events or realizations requiring space is also moot, as there are no dimensions. So technically an absolute Void is infinite in both capacity and probability. All events would also have the same probability, as there are no restrictions upon their occurence. Even if you don't believe that the nature of this absence would mean all realities are inevitable, the existance of our own and it's posessing an equal probability of realization to everything else would mean that as our universe exists, so does every other possibility [lack of restricitive antecedents].
Was everyone pre-destined? Well if you go by the above statement regarding the ol' infinite multiverse, then every action has to happen somewhere. We may not be predestined in any particular manifestation, but whatever action we take was inevitable somewhere. Bit of a yes and no one there. For a more comprehensive explanation of that particular theory, see http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AlaFAM4dQYQCTeBTCSyxzATty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071012175122AAKT1gV&show=7#profile-info-Udk6r2pOaa To be honest I'd rather not C&P it, and am far too lazy to do all that typing over again.....
Of course, all this could be wrong. And probably is. But it kept me occupied for a few sleepless nights.
Sorry for the speil.......
Edit: As a bit of a subjectivist, I find it hard to distinguish between whatever the real answer may be and what I think is the answer..... but all the above came from my own overactive mind.

Why do you want to know?? I find that 'why are we here' is a pretty irrelevant question (and one I doubt anyone will be able to answer in this lifetime). All that we know for sure is that we are here and I think we shouldn't bother with questions that no one can answer definitively.
And secondly, no, everything is not preset. It's true that the future has already been written, but it's written to be changed (if that makes sense). Everyone has his/her own destiny, and everyone can choose/change their destiny.

The science would answer this question for me. I choose to believe we are stewards of the planet. I wish others would get on board with this idea.
The reason the rich get richer is they would need to be convinced they would give their money to ensure they and their future heirs would be able to breathe and drink clean water and have food. As long as there's Evian and McDonald's for sale, these people will continue to hoard money and not care.
Without a crisis, only the Illuminati remain in control.

Choices. We all make 'em. We often are not aware of them, making them at the speed of Life as we do. But, indeed, we are responsible for all the outcomes we experience.
This victim perspective is unbecoming one with all the power you have. Get a grip. Look within. You already have all the answers.
You were born a powerful entity, as surely a Genius as any that ever lived. Remember, and live what you love everyday

Why not science? What if science explains to me why I am here? Without using science, my opinion is; we are here for one purpose to live and procreate. Everything else including where we live, work, believe in or create is based on a societal structure that has evolved over millions of years. Why are we where we are now? Because of trillions of tiny decisions made by billions of people throughout time.

We are here to learn to love God completely, love colleague as Self, and as Christ Jesus, Truth, loves, and to ascend in the Light of God as have Enoch, Elijah, Jesus, and many Saints.
cordially,

p.s. If you can stand to click on http://www.divinecosmos.com and http://www.tiller.org you will learn more.
Likewise, if you read "Climb the Highest Mountan," Mark Prophet, "Watch Your Dreams," Ann Ree Colton, "The Reincarnation of Edgar Cayce?", Free and Wilcock, and "Man, Master of His Destiny."
Note that you have choices as to clicking and borrowing from the library, even interlibrary loan. As you sow, so do you reap. Be willing to consider others' writings in such books and sites as mentioned.

I believe we are here because God was lonely and wanted someone to talk to. Your Bible of choice is just your way of training to become the most effective companion that you can be.
