I've done a little bit of sociology and quite a bit of psychology - social psy being my favourite. Sociology is more the study of society - for example why people live in communities. Social psychology is more the behaviour of people in social situations, for example looking at aggression and obedience (a couple of my favourite bits). Basically, do you want to study society or behaviour? I think that's the difference at the simplest level.

yes there is a big difference. Sociology is the study of a group of people. Social Psychology is the study of one person and how they relate to society.
