My internet service (Cox) provides a free website for each email address I create (up to 7). They have detailed online instructions on how to activate it and what functions are supported and what are not. (Forms - such as having a person enter pre-selected information and it being sent to you - is not supported). Probably because the free websites are not to be used for earning money.

Now, I already had a web page creation software on my computer (Front Page 2003) so I used it to create what I wanted. There are a lot of other software programs out there, but this was already available to me.

Now, I wanted to make a webpage for my son's baseball team. But unfortunately, the free address to the site was ridiculously long and hard to remember. So I went to "Name Secure" and bought a domain name that is easier to remember for like $8.00 a year. Go Daddy is another popular company to buy a domain name.

I did not buy the hosting service (where you buy space/memory to park your website data on their computer and have it connected to the internet), just the domain name. As the hosting service is already provided free to me from Cox. When setting it up, I selected the easy to remember address be "re - routed" to my free domain location and address. It was terribly easy, and I was very skeptical.

This was a very cheap and easy thing to do for me. I enjoy being able to call myself a "webmaster" too.... lol - someone who struggled with BASIC when it came out about a million years ago.
It will prob be a lot more expensive if you plan on using the site to earn money, but overall I recommend everyone dabble in web design.
Good Luck!! Email me if you have more questions.

No darling. that's an involved process. Check with your Internet provider. They usually provide you with some free space and have a program to teach you to do it> I know that Yahoo does.
You can go to web sites like
www.bluehost.com
www.godaddy.com
and just do a search for website hosting and you will get a bunch to pick from. Some have template to help you get started and most will be from $5. to $20 a month depending on what you want. =But could be higher with a complicated site.

The helpful article at http://www.makemyownwebsite.net gives a basic overview of what is involved when you want to make your own website.

There is more step by step information on one specific service available here: http://www.websitebuilderfree.com/support/tutorial.html

Go to http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/officelive/default.aspx
There you can get a free website with domain name.
They charge and refund £1 to your credit/debit card, just to verify that you are over 18.
It comes with a site builder.

Or you can build it yourself with the help of http://www.w3schools.com/

You'd better familiarize yourself with php, javascript, css, html, mysql, and other server languages and scripts. It's a lot of work for one person!
