There were rumors and discussions by Ridley Scott, and it would see the rise of a new gladiator (Commodus's nephew) but it has definitely been confirmed that it will NOT happen.
It's a good thing really, because there isn't much left to make a sequel out of. The antagonist and protagonist are both dead, everyone else lived happily ever after, what are the going to make a sequel out of?

There was talk of a sequel with a different Gladiator, Djimon Honsou was in talks at one point, but I believe the idea has been scrapped, at least for the time being.

doesn't need a prequel or sequel.... I love movies and everything but over here we want to kill movies with the both of those to try and get more money out of everyones pockets. Some movies need them which won't happen, and some get them that don't need them.
