To make a long story short, my bank made an error. I use their online bill pay to pay my utilities, and they paid Georgia Power twice. Now I'm short nearly $100. It took them 3 seconds to take the money out, yet they're telling me it's going to take 5 - 7 business days (possibly longer since Thanksgiving is this week and the banks are closed) to get my money back into my account. I've talked (via the phone) with reps from both GA Power and my bank, and neither of them say they can do anything to speed this process up. Does anyone know what I can do to get the money put back in my account faster? This is definitely a banking error--they admitted it.

Thanks

The money is in the hands of Georgia Power, and the bank can't make them refund your money any more quickly. Given that this is a bank error, they should advance you the amount of the error to spend on a short term basis without charge, until the overpayment is refunded to your account. However, you may have to talk to someone in management to accomplish your goal, since the standard CS person will just say they cannot do it.

You could file a complain with the Bank but by the time it's received, you'll have your money. I do not pay anything online because I don't trust the system. My insurance co paid my homeowner twice and of course I was not aware of it until I got a notice they increased my payment. When I called, they thought it was a big joke. Some things you have to live with.
