I'm fine with my actual body, but I hate the way I 'hold' it.

A few of my friends have said I walk funny & I'm too rigid. I used to be hunched over and slouchy, but I tried hard to improve my posture and apparently I'm too stiff now! When I walk, I feel really embarassed. My feet sometimes go inwards and I'll lean to one side. I just generally feel uncomfortable walking, because of how I look AND how I feel. I tried wearing trainers and that improved my walking a bit. Is it just me being anxious or is there something physically wrong? Or have I just got a uhm... unique walk?

I never know how to hold my arms... they sort of hang down and look... wrong? It's like I'm not capable of 'holding' my body.

I want to be confident but I can't seem to improve my posture!

Thanks if you reply.
(:

It may be that your upper body is not in proportion to the lower or vice versa. Or that you got into bad habits of walking/sitting and such and need to reevaluate those things.

Go to a full length mirror in a room and try looking carefully at the way your body just 'stands' in your normal position. Look at front and both sides. Then note if anything is not symmetrical and notice which side is higher or lower. Notice whether there is stiffness or jerkiness.

Walk some forwards and backwards and see what that is looking like. Is one leg different from the other? Do the foot and heel land well in the start of the walk?

With analysis and a good view of yourself, you should be able to find out what is the 'better' way that the body should look. Maybe a parent or a good buddy could help you make some movement changes. Or go to a dance teacher at a studio and pay for a bit of help, privately. $20.00 might do it, and the teacher will tell you what exercises to do to strengthen the muscles and get you into better habits.

You could also go to a gym and ask for some ideas. Those personal trainers know all the body's muscles and can give you assistance for improvement. IT is worth it.

You could be a clone of me. I have been self-conscious of my posture for as long as I can remember. I never know what to do with my hands. People always tell me my posture is very, very bad and when I stand up straight, I feel like a doofus. I think we need to look in a mirror and start practicing walking straight, it is going to be challenging though. Last time I did this, my chest even hurt, because it is not used to standing erect!!

if you do walk weird
it's probably a little and noone really notices but you
it sounds like you have low self esteem and are just worried about your appearance
