You could get some people together in a room for 20 minutes and keep track of how many times someone yawns (don't tell them what you're doing). Then, get the same people together for another 20 minutes but this time, you should pretend to yawn a few times and then keep track of how many people yawn. This way, you can test the hypothesis that yawning is contagious. Good luck.

Most people are aware that in most cases yawning is contagious..I would try doing a blind study, and see how many people DO yawn when they see someone else yawn, and how many people the "chain" lasts thru..Then focus on the people who DON'T yawn, and try to find out why some people aren't affected the same way as everyone else.
Good Luck.

I could not find an experiment on yawning but when i was in middle school i did this. I got a B on this project.
Brain model
Create a model of the brain by using clay, playdough, styrofoam, recyclables, food, etc. Create a whole brain or use a brain atlas and create cross-sections of the brain at different levels. Use different colors to indicate different structures
Materials:
Clay or Playdough or Styrofoam or Recyclables (bottle caps, cups, buttons, etc) OR Food (fruit, jelly beans)
A picture or diagram of the brain

You could yawn and see how many people yawn back. See if a pretend yawn gets less results than a real one. I've even heard that dogs will yawn if you yawn in front of them.

Contagious is the wrong word, but it does catch. I did this yesterday, I yawned on a bus and two people next to me yawned shortly afterwards. I was interested in this a while ago, but resources told me that no one at the moment can figure out why this happens. Good luck wit your project =)
