No I have never trimmed the grass around my tree, I wouldn't object if my LOVE fickleNIF♥™ wants to trim it to make it neat for HER placing a bird feeder on the the tree

Absolutely, I have done this many times. There is no logical reason not to and there is no gayness about it. But keep in mind that if its hot summertime, the hair that normally wicks away the uncomfortable sweat will not be there to do its job.
