THE TITLES STARTED OUT WITH FOLEY AND ENDED UP CHANGING HANDS 12 TIMES. 12 TIMES IN 1 YEARS. THE FIRST 12 WWF TITLE REIGNS LASTED FROM 1963-1988.

I PERSONALLY THINK AFTER 1999 THE TITLE BELT BECAME A JOKE.

I think during the Attitude Era in general, titles became a joke.

Don't tell me you forgot titles like the "Hardcore" Championship, a title that Crash Holly held 22 times! Also, you have to remember that society today is supposedly infested with ADD, and people today get tired of seeing the "same people" winning championships, when in truth most of the people winning them are the only deserving people through their character or work ethic.

Great Question King Kjors...

I agreed 99%!
So many title changes in one year,it is ridiculous.Witht that way WWF(at that time) decided to change the champions again and again to bring ratings and becoming more interesting. They succeded somehow but that was really no good and generally a joke as you said for the titles.
The disrespect was not only for the belts though, but for the former champions that they were busting their @sses all their life to get a championship or even getting a title shot.Legends like Sammartino and Backlund have held the title 5 years..and i am asking the WWE now...How they can compare Sammartino's title reign with Mankind's??The title reigns of each two wrestlers can't be in the same league for god shake and the guyz like Rogers and Sammartino fighting for 5 years to lost them...not for 15 days...

So many title reigns in one year is a joke...as joke is when the title reign is long without the wrestler being at least very good(John Cena)...

1999...so many title reigns from Rock,Mankind,Taker,Austin HHH and Big Show meant that the WWE wanted ratings and new faces in the top from month to month and in some occasions from weeks to weeks...

The meaning of winning that belt in 1973 e.t.c from winning it in 1999 is so different...chaotic...
And noone has to blame me that i disliked these days or something like that.I really enjoyed these days with awesome storylines and entertaining matches but i'm talking about the meaning of winning the WWE Championship BELT...

That's why they call it the attitude era!
yes it was crazy but not more than having the champions for 3 years
I think a proper title reign is 4-8 months no more no less
and I object after 1999 title belts became better in 2003-2005 title reigns were great except for the JBL thing

Alot of the reigns became jokes as it was a wild ride in the Attitude Era.

I think that is the reason why people hated John Cenas title run. It was because Austin couldn't pull it off and The Rock wouldn't let his ego get in the way. Rock could have ran with it alot longer several times if he wanted to but he didn't. A Champion should be indestructible, not losin the belt an average of once a month just to get it back a couple months later as they did in 1999.

So the question is now

What makes a champion, a champion?

And I approve this question

I hope you haven't been holding a grudge since then. That's not healthy.

By the way, is a business that has seen Mae Young give birth to a hand, David Arquette become the WCW World Heavyweight Champion, Hector Guerrero dress up as a turkey, and Mantaur, a few title changes doesn't make the list.

I'd say the reigns were jokes, but the year within itself wasn't terrible.

This may be why most kid's today have ADHD with title reigns, heaven forbid someone holds the strap over 12 months...

I guess, but it was still a fun year to watch, right?

I think people put too much thought into this type of stuff... It's just wrestling, man. If it's entertaining, just enjoy it.

I dont agree with you. I hate it when only one wrestler keeps the title forever. It gets boring!!!
