Depends on who pulled the trigger, let the arrow fly, etc...
I think Venison is a healthy meal and good meat. However, I can't stand people who hunt for pure sport and never take anything home but a trophy. I don't know why people shoot an animal and then leave the entire thing to rot when the entire thing can be used for a variety of different things from food to the hide etc.
Venison is dinner, just don't waist what you kill. Kill only what you won't waist, and don't ever give it to someone without telling them what it is.

I say both, I am married to a hunter as well, my husbands family shoots a (small but not young) to feed the hunting crew for the week there hunting however choose to keep the "bambis" alive so they get bigger for next seasons meat.
He has never been an "antler hunter" he shoots so we have meat for the year if there are antlers great, we have no mounted heads and not antlers on the wall. That's what "HUNTING" has been and should be all about.

Dinner. Hey it's better than eating that fatty crap from a factory farm. Deer are wild and if you eat the deer after killing it is the most natural form of eating meat. You are directly involved in the work and get to see the pain that the deer goes through.

Bambi.
I've never tried venison before, but I would actually like to. haha my friend had duck that her brother and dad caught for thanksgiving instead of turkey. I thought that was cool.
