If you are talking about a maternity leave then I think that it is 12 weeks. If you have long term disability then longer. You should check with your Human Resources Manager, all company polices are different.
Sorry I said 6 weeks the first time but I meant 12 weeks.

3 months for maternity leave. If you're talking about taking a leave for a sick child then it's usually 30 days for a family medical leave of absence. If you have insurance for these things then it will depend on what the doctor's office tells the insurance company.

Maternity or Sick?
It depends on your company's policy. They have to allow you a minimum of 12 weeks I think as regulated by the government, but whatever it is it at least has to be the same as the short term disability for an injured worker that your company offers. Check your company's handbook, if they don't have one check with the department of labor or the department of labor and workforce development in your state.

The Fanily Leave Act in CA says you can take 3 months. Six weeks disability with pay, and 6 weeks of unpaid. this time can be taken in increments and does not have to be taken all at once.

12 weeks per calendar year - UNPAID after you've already used your vacation days. This is if you're caring for a sick child. If your giving birth, it's 6 weeks

Dear I have a friend who is on medical leave for a family member. You are entitled to the F.M.L.A. (family medical leave of ab sense.) They can not fire you for it either. It is given to us by the government. You should be able to draw it for 3 months. You may be able to get more depending on your employment security, union? and such. If it is for yourself then you may be able to draw a F.M.L.A. income. If it is for a family member such as your son then you probably won't. I hope this helps.
