What is a good type of brick and block to use to build your standard house and how much would the cost?

cement block in our area is $1 a block, so how wide is this house,? how long is it / how high is it ? , each block is 16 inches long, 8 inches high, so if it took 40 block on one row, it would take 200 block to go 40 inches high, on 1 row,
there all made the same way, so theres no type thats best,
[except] they do make a cinder block but you can,t use that for a foundation,
