I would bury it in an location and wait till the end of the war to go back and claim it.

Another possibility is to rely on Crapgame. His being in supply means that he could possibly arrange to have it transported to someplace where they could change the gold for money. In fact, I bet he would know exactly who to contact. He would use the army supply system to move the gold. Claim he is sending 500,000 rectal thermometers when in fact, he is sending a lot of gold. The supply system in a war zone is usually chaotic and many a supply sergeant made a tidy little profit from that fact.

You wouldn't need to bring it home. You would simply take it to Switzerland and sell it for cash over the counter. There is no problem at all.

Nowadays, you can take a plane to Zurich, go to the international arrivals lounge and pay cash into your Swiss account. Then get back on the next plane and go home. There will be no stamp on your passport to show that you were ever in Switzerland!

customs were not as stringent back then, but consider even nowadays in this hi-tech era, we have had soldiers coming back from Iraq, Afganistan and Bosnia with weapons and explosives and they have successfully got through customs checks!!! A lot of it is luck I suppose

I dunno, but if its anything to go by, my uncle sent a 'liberated' BMW m/c and side car home via a Lancaster bomber. And he wasn't an officer like Clint's one, trying to get a yacht home in a B-17!
