okay so my boyfriend and i are ready. We are both virgins and we don't want to take a chance in me getting pregnant. He is going to use a condom and im going to use a sponge, is that enough?

As long as you use the condom properly, you should be fine (I'm sure you know already that it is 99% effective).
If you don't feel comfortable relying on using just one method of contraception (particularly one neither of you have had much experience with), it may put your mind at ease to go on the pill.
Speaking from experience, this worked for me.

There is never a definite solution to this problem. The precautions you are using may be enough, however there is a chance that you may still get pregnant. The condom might break and the sponge may not work. Abstinence is the only safe bet.

I would be careful of using sponges. Some people have reaction from the spremaside. The only true way not to become pregnant is to not have sex. But I think you will be save.

If you have decided to have sex then now is the time to see a dr. about the pill which is the most effective method but even then pregnancy can occur.....just ask my niece who is expecting her 3rd!

Hon, why don't you consider waiting to have sex until you are with the person you know you'll marry? I wish I had. Once you have sex and if you & your bf break up, you will continue to want it & before you know it, you'll be having casual sex with anyone you date.....it just keeps getting easier and easier. That's my lecture for the day....from an old lady who wishes she could do it over again.

No birth control is 100% effective, but that combo definitely sounds 99% likely to work, if both are used correctly.

yes just as long you're consistent with the protection use. Keep in mind you want him to always use a latex condom to keep you from catching other diseases.

Believe me, you're not ready.. you're just doing this to make/keep him happy. (Write back in 2-3 years, and let's see what you remember about losing it, now.) You should wait until after college, by the way -- there's no real reason for you to waste your time.

If i were you, I would use a spermicidal Condom, a spermicide, and the withdrawl method. Good job for using protection!

I think so but you should probably use a spermicidal condom just in case.

"enough?"

If used properly, the Condom has better than 99% efficacy.

Just make sure you use it properly!
