I think that they are Stupid, It gives girls a false sense of whats Beautiful and either kills their self esteem or boosts it to an unbearable level and causes dangerous crash dieting in so many cases! I had friends that said we should do pageants together when in HS but I never cared because I didn't want to hang out with a bunch of superficial girls!

I think they're ridiculous and they reinforce the erroneous societal notion that the value of a girl or a woman is strictly based on her looks. Not only that, but I really wonder why little girls are made to wear make-up, poofy hair, and ugly dresses in child beauty pageants and why women aren't disqualified from adult pageants for having nose jobs or boob jobs. Whatever happened to natural beauty?

Unbelievabley STUPID, insipid, shallow, and a very wrong thing to teach our young people - that you are JUDGED on your appearance.

In the REAL world, a person will have to have more substance than the fluff of a "pageant" and a young person should learn that as soon as possible.

Beauty is composed of many things - the outer shell is just one piece. And if that's all you're ever taught to cultivate, you're in for a rude awakening!

I think that some of them are forced into doing that kind of thing, the kids may not like it; but the parents LOVE it. Some of the kids love doing it when you actually watch and see. Even some of them cry because their parents are making them wear make-up, and stand in front of a crowd and dance or even sing. This is something probably not all kids would love doing. For adults that's a different story when they're involved they have more say into what they want to do from what they don't want to do.
