I remember once getting off the train and there was a man that was getting off the train in front of me and he didn't mind the gap and his leg went between the train and the platform. Needless to say he couldn't stand up straight for a long time because he landed on his love below.

Yes it's safe to live in, but it varies from neighborhood to neighborhood. Some have organized watch groups who take like shifts watching for suspicious activity, and in some cases, investigate reports of it. Some neighborhoods it's more of an individual effort. It's designed to detour potential criminal activity more-so than to combat any that is occurring.
