I am not American so I just want to know what exactly do these illegal immigrants(and from which countries do they come) do to make all the Americans so cross. Are they criminals, do they take the Americans jobs, are they a burden on tax payers?

Please don't think that ALL Americans feel the same way, on this or any other topic. The diversity of our population also makes for a huge diversity of opinion.

But yes, the Americans who do oppose illegal immigration most strongly do so for the reasons you mentioned.

-Some illegal immigrants do come with the sole intent of criminal activities (drugs, smuggling, etc), but the majority are simply very poor people looking for work and better wages.

-There is a stereotype that illegal immigrants take American jobs, but this isn't really accurate. LEGAL immigrants are often hired or outsourced to replace American workers, since they are willing to work more cheaply; but ILLEGAL immigrants usually take the nasty smelly dirty dangerous jobs that most Americans refuse to do.

-Yes, illegal immigrants can present a serious burden to taxpayers, especially if their children are born in the U.S. (and are therefore automatically U.S. citizens). They place stress on the already thin resources of many hospitals, schools, and other social services. And since they are illegal residents, they do not pay taxes, and therefore do not contribute to the cost of the services they are using.

Most illegal immigrants would like to become citizens and pay taxes and have all the rights and duties of a regular citizen; but there are simply too many for our current immigration system to handle.

Actually, what you should be asking is "Why do many American people..." instead of "Why is the American people..." because not all American people think that way.

I agree with what "shadowst..." said. And actually, there's many answers to your question. Some American people could be just plain racist, where some people (like me) think its a very big burden on taxes. Middle class and working class citizens of USA are the ones who are supporting country and those illegal immigrants who are cheating money from the government. Identity theft is also an issue related to illegal immigrants.

However, those illegal immigrants also slightly help the economy, because if they do not take those low-paying jobs, no one else will want to take them.

Yes they are criminals from the minute the cross the border hence the term illegal. They depress wages as they will work cheaper. They do not have insurance for anything. If they get sick they go to emergency rooms who cant turn them away. Then they give false imformation and dont pay the bill. They drive without licenses or insurance so when they are in an accident they run. And the citizens ending up paying for it all. They are a burden on the taxpayers. We pay to educate their children, we pay for their medical, and alot more. Illegals come from everywhere. Some sneak into our country and some over stay visas.

i think what really ticks ppl of about illegal immigrants is the fact that they are breaking the law, and some of them have no respect for any law. Noticed i said some.
I think that alot of illegal immigrants come here out of need. So some of them come here, and actually try hard to blend in, obey laws, and pay taxes. But every one seems to focus so much on the immigrants that are just bad ppl in general.

The problem is that they are illegal and they are not paying taxes. Then, they are collecting medical care, welfare (money for the poor), food stamps, and having children in our country that then makes us support their children out of our taxes. Since they dont pay taxes and taxes is where these privlages are that they collect from, it takes food out of the mouths of Americans who live here legaly and truly do need and deserve our help. There are other reasons why it is a problem... but this is one of the main reasons.

Illegal is a major issue, tax dollars/economy is a major issue and jobs are a major issue.

Would you like it if in your country you had 12 million murderers or rapist running around free and politicians were saying that they could not help doing what they did and needed to be left alone and nothing done to them. Most Americans feel that if a law is broken, the person breaking the law needs to face the consequences. It is as simple as that.
