'Incomplete' by the Backstreet Boys was on VH1 right now, and it got me thinking - does anybody know of any bands that made decent to impressive comebacks? 'Cause to my knowledge, the *vast* majority of comebacks have been nothing more or less than embarassing.
(*cough* Poison with Poison'd *cough*)

Also, I've noticed that a lotttt of the time when bands make comebacks, it's usually with a much more commercialized sound... do you agree?

I think the most successful "comeback" for Rock Bands would HAVE to be Aerosmith. They were left for dead until the RUN-DMC version of "Walk this way" came out with them in the video. Since then, take a look at their hits, CD's, tour popularity, awards, videos, etc., etc. Janie's Got a Gun!

I think it was a combination of the group kicking the habits, become responsible parents, and getting more creative with their music.

One of the greatest (relatively) recent comback stories in Rock for me, has to be The Red Hot Chili Peppers. This may sound crazy to some. You might be saying, "when were the Chili Peppers on the outs?" But if you remember all of the trouble that lead guitarist John Frusciante had with herion abuse. They replaced him with Dave Navarro of Jane's Addiction and it just wasn't a good fit. After that, the Peppers kind of disappeared for awhile and it looked like they would just fade into obscurity. Then, miraculously, Frusciante got clean, returned to the band to write some of the most beautiful, rocking tunes the band have produced. Three albums later, the Chili Peppers are arguably the greatest current American Rock band and continue to produce and seemingly improve with every effort!

There are several that fell out of the mainstream and made a comeback.

Bon Jovi - Bounce
Bruce Springsteen - Magic
Bob Seger - Face the Promise

Although I think the strongest comeback was Tina Turner - Private dancer

The only one I can think of right now is the Man in Black......Johnny Cash

**The Goo Goo Dolls.......they had a commercial hit with Name then disappeared for a long time, when they reemerged in the popular eye they kept producing material that was along the lines of name............very different from their punk roots

I agree. Most don't do it well. New Bon Jovi? Ew. Van Halen- very mixed. All the old rock bands- so-so.

Smashing Pumpkins. Well, it wasn't a massive gap between them finishing and coming back, but 'Tarantula' is a sheer brilliant song, and a great one to come back with.

Again, Foo Fighters didn't really come back as such, but 'Best Of You' was such an anthem to come back with :¬]
