Sounds like you answered your own question so it never really was a question in your mind. However, the answer you ascertained is incredibly inaccurate.

Aside from Foo Fighters (who will eternally kick a**), and apparently avenged sevenfold (who i don't personally care for, but whatever), stop listening to the radio then. Go to some local concerts with band that haven't made it yet. You'll find some damn good music is to be had. It's not dead, it's just the record labels for the most part is using nickelback and the like as a money making machine right now, and I can't blame them. As bad as their music is, it's working for both of them (the band, the label). There are two bands I dig quite a bit who aren't big and probably never will be, and are more rock and roll than anything on the radio these days.

Yes there still is a place for them...but they will get lost in the shuffle. In the 60's and 70's Rock and Roll was IT. Now there are so many genres and instruments that a lot of people are diversifying. I love rock...I even play electric guitar, but I'm also now into electronic and some hip-hop. I don't think any particular genre will ever be king again.

When people are saying that others are *copying* the likes of Creed & Nickleback, it IS tempting to say it's dead.

But

It ain't. Just that IMO, for the most part the really creative, unpredictable stuff is being made by indie bands.

You must've ate a big bowl of stupid for breakfast, there are plenty of good bands and it will never die,Rock and Metal are the kings of music, yeah those bands suck and there too many like them but you have to dig deeper to find the good stuff, and maybe switch radio stations or quit radio altogether cuz they really dont play alot of good stuff
Metal is growing every minute and totally dominating

no, good rock is still out there you just need to look for it. Look beyond the top 100 charts and what's being played on the radio, some of my favorites that are more mainstream- system of a down, incubus, muse, audioslave, radiohead, and the less known ones- cold war kids- they have a very distinct, different sound, very soulful and a bit eclectic. also kaiser chiefs, wolfmother, there are a lot more just search for them.

The amazing thing about rock n roll is that each subsiquent generation re-invents it for themselves. Don't let yourself get stuck in the mud of what was.

My sentiments exactly Dani!
If you're relying on the radio to give you a hint of what the situation of Rock is nowadays you're totally lost!

no, you're wrong. there's plenty of good rock bands out there and all you're hearing are these "creed and nickleback copycats."
