Hello

Look up Astral Projection/Traveling on-line. Loads of sites out there on the subject.

Yes we are attached by a cord of energy.

Astral Traveling can be done consciously, it requires dedication to achieve, although we do it when we sleep naturally.

OBE (Out-of-Body Experiences) is a persons subjective feeling that they have left their body. What happens is often dependent on how the experience is induced (electro-magnetic fields, substances, meditation, or spontaneous). Many people report visiting relatives, friends, or just viewing the next room.
Attempts to detect anything physical (your out of body self) has been problematic at best but some work was done on this by Keith Harary and Ingo Swann.
Some people are able to gather accurate information during this experience but most parapsychologist believe this is due to ESP (Extra Sensory Perception) and that OBEs are just a way to allow this information to come into conscious awareness.

The silver cord is almost never reported in the current scientific research literature and is an occult belief held over from when OBEs were called Astral Projection. The Silver Cord originated with the teachings of Madame Blavatsky (link below) and are not found in any records before her teachings.
I have included several links for you some of which are books on how to induce these experiences.

OBE is performed by one of two things. Lucid Dream State, or Sleep Paralysis, both of which can be deliberately induced. There are plenty of books and internet sites that will give you tips for inducing these states of mind.
Sleep Paralysis is the most realistic type of OBE and can be induced by changing sleep patterns, drinking caffein before bed, sleeping on your back, napping, and various other techniques to screw up your bodies sleep mechanisms. Lucid Dream State is more dream like and can be acheived though medatative techniques, and relaxation.
No, there is no silver cord, and you cant get lost in space or anything like that, because you do not actually leave your body.

Have fun.

My husband did this a couple of times. It fascinated him...until he saw "an old lady come out of the closet". It scared him so bad he said he'd never do it again. We had never heard of astral travel. Now I wonder if that house was haunted and we didn't realize it. If I had believed that ghost was in our closet I would never have gone in that room again. I don't remember any other "signs" of a ghost being there. But I know that sometimes things happen and you attribute it to something else...when it might be a ghost. I wouldn't mess around with astral traveling. They say sometimes you might not be able to get back into your body.

As far as science can tell, it is merely a vivid dream or "lucid dream" and nothing more. There are many people who have such dreams and insist that they traveled out of their body, though the proof that it actually happens or not does not seem to be forthcoming.

I added a link below which is to an excerpt from the book, "Lives of the Psychics". Scroll down and you'll find an account of an out-of-body experience by a famous magician. You might find it interesting.

I have OBE's and Lucid Dreams all the time. They're very similar, but with OBE's I actually become conscious while sleeping. It's like my spirit wakes up, but my body remains asleep. When this happens I realize that I'm looking around the room, but my eyes are closed. It's really hard to describe, but it's like you can see perfectly through your eyelids. At this point I'll usually lift an arm, and I can see it separate from my body. I usually have the most sucess with 'rolling out' of my body. Others sit up, lift up or even pull themselves up imagining a rope hanging from the roof. Once I'm out, I can look around the room and even at my sleeping body. At this point, your room may appear as you remember it, or things may change. Some theories are that there are different Astral Planes, and what you see will depend on which plane your on. The first is our plane, the everyday....and then there are 7 levels until you reach the highest. (see Robert Monroe, he wrote lots on this topic)

Once you're free from you body, you can explore your house, go through walls ( I actually lifted up once and could see all the layers of my house, from the drywall to the wood, insilation, attic, etc....very cool!)

Lucid dreaming is very similar, but when I lucid dream, I 'wake up' while in a dream. Usually something triggers me to become concious. I've practiced many techniques over the years and finally, success! It comes very natural to me now, and I always enjoy it. I love to fly and exlore. Sometimes I talk to loved one's that have passed, or visit distant places.

Both experiences are drasticallly different than dreaming, not only in the concious aspect, but the detail. It's incredible. You can 'feel' things, like the texture of a wall, or the warmth of water, the air whipping by you as you fly......it's absolutely 'real'. The colours are spectacular and everything is just vivid and crisp. It's like dreaming in high definition or something.

There are web sites that offer advice, and many books on the subject. I think the thing to remember is that it can take time to master, but it's worth it.

There are various theories as to what's actually occuring during these episodes. They range from the paranormal to the scientific, but regardless of the science behind it, it's a wonderful and facinating experience. :)

Good luck!

An OBE is a dream that seems like it's really happening. That's really all there is to it.

Some questions you can ask regarding non-material claims: Where does such information (i.e. OBEs are real) come from? How does the person who spread such information know?

I Astral Project all the time.

Don't listen to people who say that you might not get back into your body...that's silly and not true. I've been doing it for years and had hundreds of amazing experiences.

If you don't check your fears, it will tend to be kind of scary tho.

Look around the forums you can find techniques and read other people's Astral Projection stories.

Check out Robert Monroe's site. I've done it myself once, but was never able to repeat it.
