In our home we are renting we have an open fireplace with no blowers, (that I can find anyways) All we have is 4 vents around the opening. It doesn't seem to be producing much heat which doesn't surprise me since there is no way to circulate the heat. I was thinking of putting a fan in front of the fireplace to help blow the heat around the room. Does anyone have any suggestions or am I just wasting my time.

I wouldn't use a fan because it will get your entire house a mess. Either build a bigger fire, or just enjoy hoiw pretty it is.

It sounds like a heatilator fireplace. Somewhere you should have a switch to turn the fan on. You should take the vents off and see if there are any fans in there.

You might ask the landlord where the switch is to turn it on.

If there really is no fan you can get a small box fan or air filter at a thrift shop to circulate some air.

well you can try a blower...just be sure it doesn't spread ashes all over the place...
If you have heat and don't NEED the fireplace.
Close the duct, and put some candles in it or close it off with a screen. (they make metal screens for this or make your own...I find that if you can get a piece of plexi glass for the fireplace, you don't need to actually FIT one, but just place it in the fireplace to block the air, it works and you don't see it.)

Well using a fan would definitely help in circulating the heat around the room, it might reduce the heat. Try having a portable heat circulating machine which consistes of pipes, dat might work!

Been there. The best thing to do is to buy one of those old school box fans, maybe a small one. Set it in front of the fireplace and put it on low, if the fan is set too high it will dissipate the heat.

there are usually intake vents low on each side and heat vents high on each side. they work by convection(and not very well) you could try putting a fan on the intakes and blow air thru but i doubt the heat increase will amount to much. your best bet is to buy a wood burning or pellet insert to go inside the fireplace. much higher efficiency

What brand of fireplace do you have? Have you tried to call Desa and find a dealer near you so you can purchase a blower? Google Desa and call them. Good luck.

make sure the fluke is open so that you don't get smoke in the house. and there shouldn't be a problem with the fan idea.
