1. Death from nut jobs.
2. Disease
3. Early old age
4. Loss of stature
Of course this applies to street walkers. Call girls working from apartments make more money, work safer, have less disease, and have better social contacts.
Drug use and prostitution are not a mutual problem. My research (for a sociology class) found that drug use did not correlate with prostitution. Many prostitutes don't use drugs, others used drugs before they began turning tricks, and others used drugs after giving up the street.
Legalization (or decriminalization) would give them protection from psychos and a life on the street. Drug use is a personal problem which is aggravated by moral sensitivity towards that profession which I have to point out has been going on a long, long time.
I had an opportunity to interview some European prostitutes and do some research. Drug use is minimal and so is murder among the legal European sex industry. The women are treated every two weeks so disease is also minimal.

It's not a long-term investment career. If you do it long enough to go to college to get a degree in something else (safely, using condoms), then it's your choice. Be a free agent, don't use a pimp. Get your degree and get into a legitimate career like banking, nursing, etc.
Yes, there are diseases and I know I'll get some thumbs down on this answer, but girls (and guys) are going to do this (sadly). I don't condone prostitution - but I think it should be legalized and regulated by the govt, medical testing done and that the industry be taxed! .... there, I said it!
