My circular saw is chipping the edges, what could I use to avoid this problem AND help me cut a perfectly straight edge? thanks

A circular saw is the best but since it is chipping your piece turn the plank over and run the saw cutting the bottom or use tape and then run the saw. Should work well. My husband did not have any problems slicing through our laminate floor, it might be your blade.

replace the blade with a fine cut carbide tip blade. I always used a compound mitre saw. I had a laminate floor installed recently( Ididn't have time to do it myself) and the installer had a guilotine that had a handle on it and sliced right through with no effort. Costs about $800.00 though. I've also used a jigsaw with a fine tooth blade to cut laminate.

Use a sliding compound miter saw with a carbide blade. It will give you a perfectly straight cut. Use a 60 tooth blade and if you still get any chipping (which you shouldn't) put some tape over it and put the laminate face UP on the saw.

If you want to do it the professional's way: Festool sells a Plunge-Cut circular saw with a 55" guiderail that is perfect for this application. The model # is TS55, and they also make a bigger model, the TS75. Use saw blade # 489457, which is made for cutting laminate and solid surface.

A circular saw should work. The problem may be the blade that you are using. You would want a fine toothed blade to reduce the ripping effect on the surface. Using tape may also help.

I don't have a lot of experience in this dept. but my guess would be to flip it over and cut from the underside. Or place some good masking tape over the area to be cut. I think cutting from the underside is a better way to go. Good Luck.

i always use a jig-saw. i cant think of what they call the blade, but it is the one that only cuts in one direction. it does an awesome job, and what little bit of chipping that does happen is small enough for the molding/baseboard to cover. As far as cutting straight lines get yourself a speed square and use a steady hand!!

Use a square and a razor knife. By putting the square on the tile, scored the front side of the flooring. Put the flooring on a raised surface and snap off the excess. A tile cutter that can be rented will also work very nicely.
