I'm thinking about buying a Ibanez RG2EX1 Electric Guitar. I want to play rock, kind of like Nirvana or a lot of the songs from Guitar Hero. I have played classical and acoustic, but i'm not that good. I like the way rock sounds and the electric guitars.

We have a new convert! I say if you can get the Ibanez for under $400, grab it. They're a reputable name.

Stay away from Starter packs if you want to be serious. You do not have to spend a lot of money, but should go to stores and talk with people at the stores about product. I prefer buying a used instrument, just make sure that the strings do not sit too high. With a used instrument, you can spend $400 and get a $700 guitar. The other thing to do is try as many guitars as you can that fall in your price range, check them for comfort, weight, feel make sure that you could sit or stand with it for a long time. Once you have tried many, you should be able to find the starter guitar that suits your needs. I am personally an Ibanez fan, but that doesn't mean that you will also be one. Also join a web community to find more info about guitars and playing, my favorite is: http://www.weplayguitar.com/user.php?op=register&module=NS-NewUser&refid=1090

Good luck and happy playing and learning.

Ah, Grasshopper, you have wise eye . . . one of the two best guitar brands for the money right now is Ibanez, the other is Washburn. For that less-than-$400 price tag, you can go either way and come home with a heck of a guitar. Keep shopping and Happy Trails.

There are plenty of solid bodied electrics for about that amount. Ibanez is decent. Check out an Epiphone SG also. Whatever you do though, go to a big box store, like Guitar Center, and play as many as you can before you buy. Don't pay as much attention to name brands as to what feels good to YOU! What other ppl suggest may be fine for them, but they aren't playing it, or paying for it!

to be honest, I wouldn't recommend a First Act guitar unless you're giving it to someone who is like 7-11 years old. The strings pop to easily and the amp you get with it sucks. Try for a Fender or an Ibanez. My dream guitar would be a B.C. Rich, but I highly doubt you're going to get one for under $400 lol.

Fender Stratocaster
Gibson Melody Maker
Jackson Warrior XT
Ibanez Destroyer

are around $400

I would take my money and go to a local "independently owned" guitar shop. "DONT GO TO A NATIONAL CHAIN" Find the owner...be up front and honest with them and see what they have in a GOOD used guitar. I have found this to be the best way to get a good deal on something that might last for a long time

A stratocaster's always a good bet. Here's a starter package:

£125 for Guitar and amp, though once you've learned you'll want to buy a new guitar...

I loved my Hamer Slammer. Dual humbuckers, tune-a-matic bridge, plus I don't think it's as heavy as one of those made-of-rock Flintstone Fenders. I got mine for about $200 CDN 4 years ago. Easy to play and above all...

It's a pretty colour. Teehee.
