or do you see it as an integral part of the emotional springboard to higher potential?

It becomes "sinful" when it begins to take over your life and change who you are. When you begin to obsess over things that you don't have, and take drastic measures to aquire those things, then perhaps it could be called a "sin". I feel that it can be a healthy competativeness that could possibly increase our capabilities and skills.

Dear Friend,

It isn't a matter of ones "opinion" as to whether 'envy' is a sin. It is what the Word of God (absolute truth) says it is. The reason being is, we take our focus off of our Creator...Jesus Christ, and put our energies and thoughts on the things of this world that are only temporal.

Galatians 5: 17-26 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

The only way to strive to keep ourselves from sinning is through the "power" of the Holy Spirit. Without the Holy Spirit dwelling in us, all a sinner knows to do is... sin. But, through the ressurection of Jesus Christ; agreeing with Christ Jesus that we are sinners...asking for forgivenes and then "sincerely" asking HIM, to come into our lives, we allow the Holy Spirit to ...teach us, protect us and comfort us.

Does that make sense?

Sincerely in His service,

lostnsavd...

Envy is a sin in a sense. We all envy other people. I envy rich people because if my family had more money my life would be so much better then it is right now. I guess it is more of a sin if we let the envy control us and be the deciding factor in how we act everyday.

It is one of the seven deadly sins. Envy makes us want what others have.. that in itself is not a bad thing, but envy also makes us jealous of that person. Instead of patting them on the back for doing well, we wish it was us.
Envy breeds contempt and possibly hate. We should strive to do better but not be envious of those who have more than we do.

The reason it is a sin is because when you envy someone you are saying that God did not give you what you need or you are not happy with the way he created you.

If you can turn envy into inspiration to achieve then it's a springboard to higher potential.

If you cannot turn envy into a positive energy..then it will destroy you

envy=covet

in the bible it's a sin.

and no, it would not be an integral part blah blah blah because if you're doing it out of envy you're doing it for the wrong reasons.
you can achieve your higher potential by working on yourself and for yourself., not to try to keep up with the Joneses.

Envy is a two-edged knife. One can use it as a springbord to higher potential or to hurt oneself. Envy creates motivation for healthy competition.

It is a sin. Envy is poison in your brain. The coveting of something that is not yours or of being something that you are not. It will lead you down a dark and dangerous tunnel. A life not lived but watching others live theirs wishing you had what they have, are what they are.

Envy is one of the seven deadly sins. If it is turned to aspiration, then it's fine. But if it stays envy and wanting everything, then YES, hence it's one of the SEVEN DEADLY SINS-lust, greed, ENVY, gluttony, pride, wrath, sloth.

Envy or covetousness is not about wanting to be like someone, it is about wanting the exact thing someone has, like another person's exact house or spouse or car. If you just want a car like theirs, or a spouse who is as attractive or nice as theirs, that's okay.
