It does me. I live in the country and it's deer season.

Well, If it is deer season, chances are it is not a shotgun blast that is scaring you, it would be the sound of a high powered rifle.

There is a big difference in the report to the trained ear. I rifle is a much more compressed sound.

As for the shotgun blast, it does not bother me in the least, but it petrifies my dog.

Not in the slightest unless it was aimed at me. A shotguns effective range is very short. Less than a couple hundred feet and the pellets just fall. That's why they are the only gun allowed for bird hunting. No bullets flying and hitting people or property.

I didn't think shotguns were used for deer. But to answer your question, yes it would scare me.

It would depend on how close the shot was. Hearing a hunter in the woods doesn't scare me, but if it came from outside the front door might.

Well, if I don't know where the shots are coming from then it scares me, but I live in a big city lol.

I'm guessing it's different in the country.

But I do like shooting shotguns :)

A sudden, loud noise will startle most anyone. In fact if you are a hunter, using a rifle, you have to work to overcome the startle effect that comes from the sudden loud explosive noise.

Wear red or bright orange and keep your head down. Or wear a large sign saying, "I am not a deer'. Better yet, stay indoors.

Umm yes, I think that the sound of a gunshot of any kind should scare most people, especially when you aren't expecting it.
