They are always volunteering to cook or bring a dish for the holidays, because they honestly think they can cook. However, in the back of your mind you think otherwise – and it’s not an opinion, it’s a fact. I have an aunt like that. She is a caterer and she thinks her speciality is baking wedding cakes, pastries, etc. Her sisters (my aunts) praise her on her baking skills, but me, my mom and several others agree that her baked goods are terrible. They lack texture and quality. They don’t have a nice appearance to them either. Also, this same aunt thinks she is a pro and cooking soulfood, but her expertise is in gourmet foods. Everytime we have a family dinner, especially a holiday dinner, she feels that she is the one who should do all the baking. She actually gets jealous when other people bring baked goods and says they aren’t good and they aren’t from scratch like hers – but they taste better than hers.

my aunt always brings us a chicken(usually stuffed and baked) for christmas.. although mom has warned us to be nice to her, we can't help grimacing at the half-cooked and tortured chicken, with raw garlic stuffed up its butt.

A good cook is someone that realizes not everything you make will turn out. I like to think I am a good cook...but there are some dishes I make that are just bad. I do have a few people around me that think they can cook and their stuff is really awful. I really like having people be honest with me about my cooking. If you don't like it tell me so I can make it better next time (that's how you learn) But I know most people hate that.
There isn't much you can do with a person like that. It's really annoying...You can always say you are on a diet haha

Wow. That sounds terrible. i understand a individual like that. I stay together with her family contributors, so i in my opinion don't have a say in something. An occasion of what she's like: the 1st time she had her new boyfriend over, she chosen to cook dinner him some variety of hen and pasta dish. yet she did no longer prefer to certainly cook dinner it, so she offered it premade. After dumping it in a skillet, she dashed upstairs for 0.5 an hour, putting on makeup and making waiting. I stayed interior the kitchen cooking the meal for her, including seasonings and doctoring it up. while it exchange into performed, I took it off the range, dished it out, and have been given each and every thing waiting for them. She got here working downstairs while he have been given there and right this moment took each and all of the credit for the meal, claiming she made it from scratch. i exchange into so mad! She's additionally had some situations of poisonous truffles and truffles, yet does not understand why the dogs gets ill after she bakes. in actuality, she sees it as her duty to bake for the family contributors, all her acquaintances, and her boyfriend's family contributors as in many situations as achieveable.

nope, but I have a funny story about a bad cook who became a phenomenal cook.
When my oldest sister was a lot younger, she made macaroni and cheese for supper. We didn't have any milk, so she used double the butter instead. I barfed it all back up that night. We called it grease-ball stew...LOL
now, however, she is an incredible cook. She has travelled all over the world and learned to cook all kinds of regional dishes. I LOVE her cooking.
EDIT - I also have an aunt who used to bring stewed dandelion greens to family dinners and my mom made us eat them, "just to be polite" EWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!

Had a friend like that - she served some of the most horrible food I've ever tasted. But I knew it was in poor taste to show up for dinner at her house with my own lunch box. :)
