Medicaid is an insurance program funded through your state that provides coverage for pregnant mothers, children, and the elderly and disabled. There are some definite pros to being on Medicaid, but there are also some cons. With your own insurance program, you may already have a doctor picked out. Many doctors do not accept Medicaid because reimbursement is far lower than that of regular insurance. So there is a chance that you would have to switch doctors. Also, finding a doctor that takes Medicaid is sometimes difficult. Although doctor's will deny it, I have had clients tell me that the care they receive while on Medicaid is not nearly the quality that they received with regular insurance. A definite plus with Medicaid is that pregnant women are not usually required to pay any premiums, co pays, or deductibles. It is the way the government ensures that pregnant women are receiving their necessary prenatal care. With this being said, depending on the quality of your insurance, some women choose to keep their insurance and use Medicaid to supplement it. Medicaid will pay any co-pays or deductibles that your insurance may require, but you will still have to find a doctor that accepts it. Rules vary from state to state so you will need to check with your local public aid department to see if you qualify. Hope this helps.

Medicaid is for people that don't make enough money to have health insurance. You have it already so there is a good chance that you will be rejected for it. Medicaid is a great health insurance for people that can't afford health insurance because it pays 95% of the costs ( copays are often $5 or less). If you are pregnant without health insurance they almost always cover you but again, you have health insurance...

Stick with what you have and don't listen to your friend...

Medicaid will help cover the costs that your insurance would not. Even with insurance you will be responsible for a portion of doctor and hospital bills. I applied for it even though I had insurance and was glad that I did. I figure that if I am paying for other ppl to be on it who are just lazy (as well as those who really need it) why can't I use it while I am preg. I ended up paying nothing.

Medicaid is government health care for the low income. Depending on your income, there is usually no monthly payment for it and no (or low) copays for services. Medicaid can also act as a secondary insurance if you already have insurance.

You can apply at your local Department of Economic Services office. It can't hurt, the worst that could happen is your application is rejected at this time. You can always reapply later if you feel you may be eligible.

Prenatal medicade pays for the bills that your private insurance won't pay. Medicade actually would prefer to the secondary insurance so that they have less to pay. Also they will pay your permiums to ensure you keep that insurance (which I doubt you even thought about canceling it).

I got medicade during my pregnancy and so did my best friend even though we both have insurance through our employers. It is cheaper for everyone all the way around. The primary insurance pays like normal, the doctors get everything paid by insurance, medicade has to pay less since they are the secondary insurance, and best of all you don't have to pay anything at all.

If you have insurance through your job, you may not be qualified for medicaid. I would just stick with your own insurance unless it is too expensive to add a dependant. If it is too expensive, see if you qualify for medicaid or medical and if you do, then cancel your insurance. Usually it's more affordable to stick with your current insurance.

Maybe your friend didn't know you have insurance and medicaid worked for her.

If you are pregnant, you will not be turned down for medicaid.
Even if you have insurance through work, you can get medicaid as a secondary insurance.
It will only help you to have more than one insurance.

Medicaid is a program that aids mothers who cannot afford to properly care for their child. This includes insurance.

If you have insurance with your place of work, I do not know why someone would suggest for you to be on Medicaid.

you don't need medicaid if you have medical ins coverage thru your employer...medcaid is ins coverage for low income or unemployed persons who cannot afford private health care coverage

Thanks for the thumbs down...I personally worked in insurance billing and dealt with medicaid on a daily basis but hey what do I know?!

Check with your local Dept of Health of Human Services but I believe your income is above the poverty line and you would not qualify.

Medicaid is supposed to be for the people who can't afford insurance and are needy. It is possible that your friend is defrauding the system and asking you to do the same.
