I've been having a terrible two days. Steelers lost, an evil creature I work with is trying to get me in trouble with my boss....so let's get a good discussion going to take my mind off my pain:

What seems to be the main thing the Steelers need to work on if they want a shot to make it through the playoffs this year?

They will win the division (4-0) and make the playoffs so don't let this road loss bother you to much.

You have to give credit to the Jets for playing solid football for the full 60+ minutes.

Long time Steelers fan. I was also frustrated by Sunday's performance. Having the Jets defense which couldn't stop anyone shut down Parker was weak.

I am not giving up hope though.

I think they need to establish Parker (running game). When the Jets and Cardinals took the running game out the Steelers stumbled. When the running game is going, Ben R seems to relax and performs much better.

Other than the Jets long pass to the Steeler 1 yd line, the defense played pretty well. I like the Steelers' chances this year. A big question I have is how well Tomlin will be able to game plan for the Colts and Pats during the playoffs. The lack of playoff experience may be the weakest spots. We'll have to wait and see.

The steelers losing is terrible news. I've been a Steelers fan my entire life and it always seems that we do a crappy job at trying to beat crappy teams.

Arizona, then Denver, and now the Jets? The Jets?!?!?! Well, they are all professionals, and I suppose anything can happen.

At least we managed to beat the browns. I hate losing to the browns most of all.

I have no explanation for the losses to crappy teams. Remeber this though. We manage to do a lot better beating NE at NE than in Pittsburgh for some reason, so maybe this is a good thing. The bye week over Indy would be nice though.

Troy is an awesome player, but that doesn't mean I have to root for USC.

Go Irish!

Hines Ward had 2 catches vs. the 30th ranked Jets defense. The Steelers allowed 7 sacks to a team without a defensive line or quick LBs? The Jets only threat was hurt after the 1st play - and the Steelers didn't key on the running game? They didn't blitz the young QB, and didn't cover any receiver in mostly sub-10 yard pass patterns?

Sorry to say, both that Jets-Steelers game was one of the handful that the NFL "fixes" as give-backs to bookies. It's awful, when it's your team, that's on the wrong side of that Fix. (Think about how that 9 1/2 point spread is in 99% of us newspapers/tv media, online, etc. -- and gambling is only legal in one State?) They do this, so men watch the games into the 4th quarter -- and it's an excellent biz plan.

If the Steelers want to make it through the playoffs and to the Super Bowl the main thing they need to work on is a way to get New England pushed over to the NFC. In which case they'll still play them in the Super Bowl and lose, but hey, anything's possible.

oh Ashley! I thought of you as the Steelers lost to one of the 5 worst teams in the NFL. My condolences.

Plus, I was hoping that there was one team left that could give the Pats a decent game in the AFC. I'm afraid there is not.

What can they do (outside of putting a hit on Tom Brady)? They need to get Fast Willie moving; I don't if it's him or the run blocking, but he hasn't been getting anywhere - even while Ben has opened up the offense.

It should have made it easier by stretching out the field, but he seems to be doing worse. If Parker gets going, the Steelers can get on a roll too.

Consisitency - the Steelers have the tools to be a great team, this year they look like a really good team. But Sunday's game against the Jets, and even last week's game against the Browns just goes to show the gaping chinks in their armor. They don't run the ball consistantly or with conviction which in turn means they're not controlling the clock. This leaves their defense on the field too long.

And by the way, is it me or is Austin N a freakin' idiot?! USC is stumbling towards third in the PAC-10, I wouldn't call that elite status. Good God, just shut up already about the Trojans.

OMG answer number three has me rolling on the floor...

I'll tell you what, the sun shines on a dogs *** some days, and the jets got there day.

However, The Stealers seem like a funny thing to me, they also lost to the friggin CARDS! WTH was up with that? I think the O-line is, if i had to say anything, there wekaest link. But the other thing is, i still see Big Ben making rookie reads, and its to be expected... sometimes when he is rolling threw his progresions he is missing something, or goes to the first guy he sees when there may have been a better option further threw his progresions...

I think they still have a super chance and getting to the big game, and i will be rooting my heart out for them when they play the Pats...

Good Luck!!

Ashley,
The Steelers really need to work on playing consistenly. if it we're my team, I would go back & look at what they did against the ravens this year & try my best to duplicate that effort! They we're untouchable that night & looked like poop this past weekend! they have done that though since their super bowl win. Big Ben has a great week, & then tries to do too much the next week! The talent is definitely there, they just need consistent execution!!! Good Luck & nice pic!~@!
