Visit some cities in the U.S. and Vancouver will seem crime free. Everything is relative and compared to here it is very nice.

You have two postings so far against Vancouver. You must have really had a bad time there! Especially when you have to make a point by SCREAMING IT AT EVERYONE!

I have not been to Vancouver myself, but have friends who live there. As with any metropolitain city, there are sections of town that everyone knows you don't usually want to hang out in, especially after dark.

I can't attest to their fashion (which was raised in the other question you posted), but Vancouver is a very expensive city to live in, and as a result, you will see people who are barely scraping by and may get a lot of street vendors, beggars, and (of course) criminals.

The pothead culture is also quite commonplace out west, as many people feel that marijuana should really be legalized.

According to Statistics Canada, only Winnipeg had a worse crime rate per capita in this country, for a city of over 500,000. Oddly enough, Thunder Bay had more drug offences reported by the police. That could mean there are more incidents there, or it could also mean that Vancouver police have decided it is more trouble to try and prosecute minor drug offences and so they have started to "turn a blind eye".

Here are the past statistics for Vancouver on Crimes per 100,000 people (most are from 2005):

Homicides: 2.5
Robbery: 153
Break-ins: 1,121
Car theft: 745
Drug offences: 468

Total violent crime: 1,089 per 100K
Total property crime: 5,874 per 100K

Now compare that to some of the other major cities around the world that are roughly the same size (2006 estimate was a population of 587,891) to see what their results are. Only then can you lend validity to your statement that Vancouver is full of drugs and criminals.

This asker obviously has something against the great city of Vancouver, visited twice and loved the place, glad to get back home to Australia but you can find those types of low life scumbags in every city in the world. notice happa chic calling people 'iliterate' etc, her postings look like that of a year 5 student, below is an example why kids should stay in school, i only do this to prove that if you have go at people for one thing or another, you better practice what you preach. (visit canada yourself instead of taking advise from iliterate baffons), noticed this in all her postings. lift your game girl, at least put a capital in Canada. that aside there 3 more mistakes, advice, illiterate and buffoon, at least use spell check and look like your half smart instead of typing crap and removing all doubt that your not. could not resist HAPA CHIC but this is a gem this what else you wrote, ( same answer as I gaved you in the last question you asked about this same issue !!!

do you not realize that all cities thorughout the world have crime and junkie the poor and of course ...iliterates?????) you poor deluded child.

The question poster is simply trying to illicit a response. Ignore it guys and dolls. I am an American who visits Vancouver twice per year. It is a wonderful city (My personal favorite). It is beautiful, modern, trendy, and very safe for a big city. Anyone who says different has never been there or simply has an agenda.

I don't know that it would discourage anyone from coming to Van. Some tourists go down to the lower eastside just as akind of a human zoo thing. Some tourists come to Van. so they can do dope.

It is actually no worse than Toronto or Montreal, and FAR better than any major US city.
